As a Senior Electrical Engineer/Project Manager, you will have the opportunity lead projects and to apply your theoretical knowledge and engineering experience to solve practical problems, primarily related to electrical and control systems associated with heavy movable structures and transportation systems. These will include highway and railroad movable bridges of all types (swing, vertical lift, and bascule) as well as rail transit systems. As part of our movable bridge team, you will work alongside industry experts and be an integral part of our Movable Structures practice.
Responsibilities include:
- Proactively manage electrical engineering projects simultaneously and ensuring the timely submission of high quality and accurate deliverables. This will include contract management, project scheduling and budgeting, setting project priorities and properly allocating staff and other resources to meet the objectives, and leading meetings with Bloom’s management team and external partners and clients.
- Perform electrical and control system engineering for heavy movable structures including developing scope of project, preparing concept, preliminary and final design documentation, specifications, and estimating construction costs.
- Complete on-site investigations, condition assessments, and inspection of electrical and control equipment, which includes electrical and control system testing, measurement, and power monitoring of the operating systems.
- Review electrical and control system work product deliverables including; inspection reports, design documentation, specifications, computations, and construction cost estimates.
- Participate in safety review process meetings and ensure implementation of robust instrumentation and logic as control or mitigation measures to ensure safe operation of the movable structures.
- Work with and mentor entry-level engineers to develop both their technical skills and their professional careers.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or better in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power engineering and/or control systems.
- 15+ years’ experience designing and implementing industrial power distribution systems, instrumentation and process control.
- Professional Engineer registration.
- Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles and electrical power, control, and motor drive systems, and the ability to exercise independent discretion and judgment to develop and guide project scope to meet assigned objectives.
- Significant experience developing electrical design packages including physical layout designs, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, ladder logic diagrams, and other miscellaneous electrical drawings in order to convey the scope of work to be performed by a contractor.
- Ability to perform electrical computations including short circuit, load flow, protective relay coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis studies.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy industrial motors of all types and vintages, motor drives both ac and dc, PLC, and motion control.
- Knowledge of PLC programming (Ladder and Function Block and sequential function chart programming a plus) as well as applicable electrical codes and industry standards. Control system architecture and wiring design, including SCADA, Ethernet and Modbus.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation as applied to electrical design and engineering.
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in the field, both locally and outside the surrounding area.
