Our manufacturing client in Ames, Iowa is looking to hire a Test Engineer. The Test Engineer will create and specify test procedures to adequately run test equipment to specification. The Test Engineer will apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering/principals and statistical data analysis to troubleshoot units as tested on the production line in order to accomplish a passing product. Knowledge of leak, run, evacuation and charge testing as well as HVAC functional principals is a plus. Must have a strong determination to protect the customer from quality and product reliability risks balanced with an appropriate sense of urgency to make sure factory productivity needs are met. Must have the ability to work under pressure to troubleshoot test problems, determine root cause of failures.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Strong HVAC background – knowledge of how furnace/cooling units operate.
  • Knowledge of leak, run, evacuation and charge tests for HVAC equipment preferred.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot product test problems and determine cause of failure.
  • Ability to work under pressure to determine if line stoppage is test or production related problem.
  • Prepares complex quality/statistical analysis and recommend necessary quality procedure changes to product test.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment and have a general understanding of how product is fabricated and assembled.
  • Must have understand of piping schematics, pressure regulation and valves.
  • Capable of following wiring schematic and troubleshoot electrical problems.
  • FTC Technician (HVAC Technician) with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have a strong determination to protect the customer from quality and product reliability risks balanced with an appropriate sense of urgency to make sure factory productivity needs are met.
 
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or completion of Heating & Air Conditioning program or equivalent experience in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical or Industrial Technology areas.
  • Must understand piping schematics, pressure regulation and valves.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment and have a general understanding of how product is fabricated and assembled.
  • Familiar with statistical analysis utilizing statistical tools.
  • Skilled in cause/effect and troubleshooting logic.
  • Ability to reverse engineer existing equipment (troubleshoot/document something that is already built).
  • Highly analytical, detail oriented and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of how a furnace, air conditioner and heat pump operate.
