SHINE is immediately looking to fill an exciting new role in a growing team dedicated to developing non-carrier added lutetium-177 for cancer therapies. As a SHINE R&D Engineer you will be working in an exciting, fast-pace manufacturing environment testing newly built equipment.  This is a cross-discipline, hands on job focused on R&D, design, troubleshooting, quality, and assembly.  You will work directly with various systems, including:

  • Control Systems
  • Vacuum Systems
  • Virtual Machines
  • Robotics
  • Ion beam generation and delivery

As a team member you may also work as an individual contributor on additional design projects and develop your interpersonal skills; interfacing and working with operators, system engineers, software engineers, vendors, and management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the development, design, testing and implementation of various systems, including:  Control Systems, Vacuum Systems, Virtual Machines, Robotics and Ion beam generation and delivery
  • Function as SHINE liaison with internal customers on technical, operational, and maintenance issues.
  • Coordinate and perform on-site installation and repair of high-tech equipment with minimal supervision. Ensure SHINE facility and all support equipment is ready and available for installation of equipment.
  • Responsible for all on-site installations, startup, diagnosis, service, and repair of equipment. Completes standard documentation procedures and forms.
  • Coordinate and perform assembly rebuild and preventive maintenance on all high-tech equipment. Install equipment modifications, upgrades, and enhancements. Provide continuous instruction on the proper use, maintenance, and repair of SHINE equipment.
  • Interface with production during all phases of all service activity.
  • Perform preventative Maintenance. Troubleshoot and repair complex electronics (low and high voltage), computer, vacuum, and mechanical subsystems.   
  • Apply ingenuity and logic to resolve complex electronic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical assembly, drive mechanism, and software systems problems for all SHINE equipment.
  • Recommend upgrades to improve equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Work from engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals during the installation, debugging, and repair of equipment.
  • Complete standard documentation, procedures, and forms.  Organize work. Maintain & distribute reports.
  • Follow all established cleanroom cleanliness requirements, procedures, and protocols, as necessary.


  • B.S. degree in engineering, technology, computer science, electronics or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, military electronics training, and work-related experience.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience with ion beam equipment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and strong data management and computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to conduct presentations to small or large technical and non-technical audiences
  • Outstanding conflict management and change management skills
  • Capability to work as a self-starting individual, initiating action and activities when needed
Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls.  Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
