FPGA Design Engineer (Platform)
Applied Technology Associates (ATA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, develops high-performance radio frequency (RF), electro-optical/infrared (EOIR), and communication systems.  These solutions include digital signal processing algorithms deployed using system-on-chip (SoC) or field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) in combination with general-purpose processors (GPPs) or graphics processing units (GPUs).  ATA is seeking skilled and adaptable embedded systems engineers to maintain and enhance our embedded processing platforms and build environments.  The Engineer would work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the development of both RF, EOIR, and communications systems.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop and maintain general purpose firmware platform architecture
  • Develop and maintain firmware for peripheral interfaces
    • Analog-to-digital converters
    • Digital-to-analog converters
    • High-speed serial links (SPI, CameraLink, 1 Gb+ Ethernet)
  • Develop and maintain automated FPGA firmware platform build scripts

This job operates in professional, secure office and laboratory environment.  This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and other equipment as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work are nominally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience using Xilinx devices (Zynq, Virtex/Kintex) and toolchains (Vivado/ISE)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience designing using hardware description languages (VHDL or Verilog)
  • Knowledge of serial communication protocols and standards
  • Experience with multiple clock-domain digital design techniques
  • Experience with in-system debuggers and logic analyzers
  • Experience designing and managing FPGA physical constraints
  • Experience with Tool Command Language (TCL)
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Familiarity with the Xilinx RFSoC and Ultrascale devices
  • Familiarity with FPGA floorplanning techniques
  • Familiarity with Xilinx System generator and/or MATLAB HDL Coder
  • Familiarity with other computing languages (C/C++, Python, Java)
