Planate Management Group is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, USA with a technical support center in the Philippines that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies.

The Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) Technician is responsible for providing inspection, classification, disposing, transporting and storage of UXO. Ensuring compliance with Federal, state and local laws.

This is a contract position for 9 months and is based at the client facilities in the Middle East (including but not limited to Kuwait, UAE, Iraq and Afghanistan).

Key responsibilities: 

  • Compute the proper amount, spacing, location and connection of demolition materials to properly assemble and initiate non-electronic and electronic firing systems/circuits
  • Destroy ammunition, explosives, propellants and toxic munitions by burning or detonation
  • Follow safety data sheet guidelines for handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Ensures adherence to the standards for safe, permissible quantities of explosives, personnel limits, handling and storage techniques in addition to other safety and disposal factors
  • Report potential or known environmental concerns
  • Recommend modifications for unusual conditions or problem areas
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications To be successful in the role: 

  • At least 8 years’ experience in explosives ordnance disposal
  • Must demonstrate advanced knowledge in UXO operations and safety procedures
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Blasters License
  • Able to work in a safe and appropriate manner under potentially hazardous and stressful situations
  • Must have strong leadership ability and can relate effectively to all types of people
  • Able to adapt to different working conditions
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communications
  • Willing to be based in the Middle East
