Information Technology (IT) and Laboratory Technician
Applied Technology Associates (ATA) is seeking an Information Technology (IT) and Laboratory Technician in support to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract.  ATA is supporting AFRL in a variety of areas related to the design and flight of space vehicles.  One of those areas is in support of the Resilient Autonomous Navigation Guidance and Robotic Systems (RANGRS) Group.  The RANGRS Group performs research in three different laboratories:  the Robotic Orbital Control (ROC) lab, the Collaborative Autonomous Networked Spacecraft (CANS) lab, and the Resilient Bus Experimental Laboratory (REBEL).  ATA is looking for qualified candidates who are interested in working within a small, agile, innovative team supporting Air Force projects and who share a strong desire to create a work environment that is highly collaborative, rewarding, and fun.  The successful candidate will serve as a technician within AFRL/ATA’s RANGRS team and contribute to a collection of projects in two ways.  About three-fourths of the job is focused on supporting the IT infrastructure of the RANGRS Group.  The other 25% of the time is in general laboratory logistics and management support for the three laboratories.  Current IT projects include hardware upgrades to the existing systems including the addition of new switches, servers, and workstations.  Future projects include migrating from a Windows environment to Linux for all servers and most workstations.  The laboratories have been recently networked together and are used to simulate and emulate many aspects of spacecraft flight providing simulated and real-time testbeds and verification and validation platforms for on-orbit spacecraft algorithms and software.  We work in a hardware environment dominated by Dell products.  Current Lab Management projects include maintaining Air Force program compliance in the areas of safety, health, control of computer-related and other government owned equipment, tools, and electrostatic discharge.

Essential Functions
The Technician’s duties will include:
  • Establishing, installing, configuring, and documenting hardware and BIOS settings and configurations
  • Establishing installing, configuring, and documenting standard software installation and configuration processes
  • Identify helpful or needed hardware and software
  • Develop and implement scripts for IT management functions
  • Maintain Group software and data repositories (e.g. GIT)
  • Maintain compliance with Air Force systems and processes for laboratory safety, health, control and inventory of computer-related and other government owned equipment, tools, and electrostatic discharge
  • Assist in preparing for inspections and audits of the laboratory processes
  • Represent ATA well with customers
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional/secure office and laboratory environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other equipment as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are nominally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel will be required (less than 10%).
Required Education and Experience:
  • Experience as an IT and/or Laboratory technician
U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree
  • Experience maintaining Air Force laboratory compliance in safety and/or inventory processes
  • Active security clearance
  • Experience with Windows Servers and workstations
  • Experience with Linux Servers and workstations
  • Experience with Dell Servers and workstations
  • Experience with PowerShell and/or Bash scripting
  • Experience with revision control systems such as Git, Mercurial, or Subversion
  • Experience programming in C/C++
  • Current U.S. DoD Security Clearance
