Sirius is currently looking for an Engineering Technician for a contract opportunity in Pensacola, FL.  This will have the opportunity to go direct and has a pay range of $25/hr. 

This role will include assisting with sample collection of diverse materials including, but not limited to, soil, sediment, water, and air for environmental tests; compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data related to landfill and environmental remediation projects, providing neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all field-related activities to senior level project personnel; and providing additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public sector client base.
 
The role requires the ability to comprehend construction plans and specifications and a willingness to perform regular fieldwork and travel for extended periods of time, including overnights and weekends; and a strong willingness to work outdoors with interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field.
 
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Conduct supervised field work for Phase I, II and III Environmental Site Assessments;
Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g. technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.);
Perform operation, maintenance and repair of soil and groundwater remediation system equipment;
Construct, repair and replace small concrete structures including 2 ft by 2 ft concrete pads using hand tools and bagged concrete;
Install, repair and replace pipes, gauges, valves and fittings up to 2 inches in diameter;
Assist in collection of soil, groundwater and surface water samples using hand augers, pumps, bailers and low flow sampling techniques;
Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
Perform indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments using calibrated instruments and moisture detectors; and collect swab, tape lift, and aerosol samples for microbial assessments.
Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) through direct lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
Preparation of daily field reports, health and safety documents, sampling logs, field drawings and diagrams and various other field forms; and
Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.
 
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of four (4) years of applicable construction or engineering experience (required); or
Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college and a minimum of two (2) years of applicable construction or engineering experience (required); or
Bachelor’s degree and the ability to monitor several different types of construction and environmental activities simultaneously. (required)
Technical experience in construction services, geotechnical, environmental, IAQ, or related engineering disciplines. (preferred)
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (required)
Ability to be trained on the operation and calibration of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited laptop and handheld computers, water quality meters, moisture /density gauges, scales, GPS, OVAs, PIDs, and other equipment. (required)
Ability to assure field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (required)
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
Strong mathematical background with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry. (required)
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. (required)
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available.
 
Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
