Supervising Engineer, Electrical
The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, doing business as MTA Bridges and Tunnels, is an affiliate agency of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority that operates seven intrastate toll bridges and two tunnels in New York City. In terms of traffic volume, it is the largest bridge and tunnel toll agency in the United States serving more than a million people each day and generating more than $1.5 billion in toll revenue annually.
The Supervising Engineer, Electrical supervises  the  electrical engineering  work  performed  by  consultants  to  ensure  that  it   is   properly   designed   in   accordance   with   the project’s scope of work, related codes and standards,    and   that    the   final    design   documents are  correct,   accurate,   clear  and  of   the   highest   quality   to   allow   for  proper   bidding   and   a   good  construction project. Reviews and performs electrical calculations, study to improve existing power system reliability, integrity and to maintain uninterrupted power to the Open Road Tolling (ORT) system.
The Supervising Engineer, Electrical, performs in-house design and prepares biddable construction package with specifications. Prepares electrical RFP for the Design-Build projects and provides review of submittals, shop drawings and technical support during design and construction phases. Supervise in-house electrical design work performs by junior electrical engineers. Investigates and resolves electrical related field problems at the Facilities.
The Engineering and Construction Department is seeking an experienced professional with eight (8) years of relevant electrical engineering experience of which two (2) years are in a management capacity.
 Additional qualifications include the following:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college, in Electrical Engineering
  • NY State PE license
  • Driver’s license valid in the state of New York
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex and diverse capital and major maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of using lighting photometric calculation, short circuit fault calculation software.
  • Knowledge of Arc-flash hazards, Over Current Protective Device (OCPD) selections, settings and coordination.
  • Detailed knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and standards, as well as regulatory agency requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction and project management principles.
  • Ability to understand and resolve complex problems presented by field conditions which affect labor agreements, authority policies and facility safety, requiring prompt and accurate design solutions.
  • High level of technical skills required to challenge technical results of consultants, when necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with the Authority’s senior management, technical staff, consultants and contractors, as well as clearly present technical positions and alternatives.
