Our primary capability areas include Project Management, Construction Management, A&E Design & Planning, and Technical & Consulting Services.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Engineer will be responsible for providing constructability review of designs, verifies on-site conditions, provides advice and support to the construction subcontractor selection process.   This position will help in overseeing the new construction or renovation projects managed by the Department of State. 

The project is located in Arlington Virginia, and may require travel to overseas posts.

 Key responsibilities: 

  • Assist project team in the development of projects and the performance of constructability reviews
  • Conduct site, facility and/or infrastructure assessments at posts, interviewing post personnel, interview local engineering and construction companies to gather local cost data and construction methodologies
  • Conduct surveys, collect and analyze information in support of planning the construction phase of work and assist with the development of construction management methodologies
  • Assist with construction management of projects as needed, analyze the effectiveness of construction management processes and personnel
  • Recommend organizational resources required for the construction phase
  • Gather performance data, provide input on variances, assist with change control processes and documentation
  • Assist with the documentation of lessons learned, development of process improvement recommendations
  • Inspecting the site to ensure that the building which will be taken place can be accommodated by that area
  • Performing other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

 Qualifications to be successful in the role: 

  • Degree or technical associate in Construction or Engineering/Construction Bachelor’s Degree; or U.S. Military engineering vocation training (construction management experience may be substituted in lieu of education)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in overseas federal construction, preferably DOS/OBO construction projects
  • Proven experience in planning and development construction projects, performance of constructability reviews, coordination with the design team, review of Request for Information (RFI),
  • Experience in construction management of subcontractors in secure environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, Adobe PDF and AutoCAD
  • Understanding of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specifications for quality, understanding of international quality standards
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Able to obtain secret clearance.
