The Opportunity

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a professional, innovative and meticulous individual for our Compliance Engineering Manager position. Compliance Engineering Manager


  • Direct, manage, and conduct necessary training for compliance equipment, testing, safety, and applicable required training.
  • Develop and manage equipment budgets for Compliance testing and accreditation.
  • Manage and maintain A2LA accreditation as well as other third party accreditations.
  • Provide and direct technical guidance and design to development teams concerning Compliance issues. Lead engineers, associate engineers, and technicians in the product development processes for Compliance. Mentor and coach other engineers, technicians, and interns.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for Compliance testing and monitoring. Lead and assist in the selection of external Compliance testing facilities or purchases of capital equipment, as required.
  • Lead in the development and refinement of internal Engineering Standards, work instructions, and Technical Guidelines in the areas of Compliance.
  • Evaluate proposed new product design specifications to ensure future SEL products are correctly designed for compliance to all applicable and/or pending compliance standards and requirements.
  • Demonstrate, direct, document, and perform all necessary testing and analysis required to ensure that new SEL products comply with required standards.
  • Lead, manage, and direct multiple Compliance projects or programs of all degrees of complexity.
  • Evaluate all proposed designs (Circuitry, PCBs, and Packaging) as required to ensure compliance with applicable standards and thereby reduce the overall product development cycle.
  • Participate in industry technical meetings, seminars, and conferences. Manage Compliance test facility, which includes but is not limited to, process definition and
  • interfacing with customers (internal and external) and auditing agencies as required.
  • Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related background
  • Minimum 10+ years experience in the area of Compliance Engineering Management, with a strong knowledge of A2LA, UL, CE, CSA, IEEE and IEC standards
  • Strong working knowledge of common Compliance related test equipment, test chambers, and testing practices
  • Self-motivated/self-starter
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Compliance analysis software
  • Knowledge of key technology trends in the Compliance Engineering field
  • Membership in appropriate professional organizations related to Compliance Engineering
