Position Summary:

We are currently looking for a full time Senior Mechanical Engineer.  This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and is focused on the development of automation equipment and processes in the fields of mail processing, document scanning and material handling.
  • Ultimately leading the delivery of complex production-level designs for new products and supporting those new products through production start-up and initial field adoption
  • Taking ownership of tasks from start to finish.
  • Architecting new products and product improvements
  • Participation in project schedule creation
  • Participation in brainstorms of best ideas and solutions
  • Collaboration with all engineering disciplines
  • Development of conceptual designs, putting them into CAD and mining the necessary design guidance data in order to refine the design
  • Providing clear, concise, accurate and timely verbal and written updates to project and department management
  • Participation in and running design reviews
  • Performing appropriate engineering analyses
  • Building of prototypes and testing (in-house and field) of those prototypes
  • Statistical analysis of test data to arrive at appropriate final design adjustments
  • Working with vendors to develop and control costs, tooling, and processes
  • Statistical analysis of manufacturing processes and part/assembly repeatability and reproducibility
  • Supporting our in-house assembly department from pre-pilot through production stabilization
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.  A formal education in robotics would be a big plus.
  • 10+ years of hands-on electro-mechanical product/machine/equipment design engineering experience
  • 5+ years of Solid Modeling experience (Creo/ProEngineer, Solidworks, Inventor, Catia, NX/Unigraphics, Solid Edge, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated engineering creativity, and ability to multi-task
  • Hands-on design guidance and design confirmation testing and data acquisition experience
  • Mechanical analytical experience (FEA, DOE, Test Plans, Engineering statistical analysis, tolerance analysis, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how to design to best leverage them
  • Strong team player and comfortable leading small groups of engineers and designers
  • Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion
  • Skilled in the areas of schedule and cost estimation and adherence
  • Comfortable working on cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical and software engineers and able to collaborate effectively and efficiently
  • Engineering project management experience would be a plus
  • Experience with designing electro-mechanical products for high volumes (10k+ per year) would be a big plus
  • A keen design eye and experience reviewing others’ design work would be a big plus
  • Design engineering experience in the printing, scanning, material handling, material conveyance, automation or robotics industries would be a big plus
  • Ability to travel when necessary (typically less than 2 weeks per year)
