The opportunity

We are currently seeking a Process Engineer to play a pivotal role at our new Hillsboro plant as we move towards being fully operational at the end of this year.  

Who we need

You are an experienced Process  Engineer with a focus on lean operations and continuous improvement. You are looking for an opportunity to return to or stay in Hillsboro and be a strong contributing member of the community. This is a role for someone who wants to join the operational management team and focus on improving performance of the process with respect to safety, quality, volume and cost. This is an opportunity to blend your hands-on expertise with your people management skills at a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and grow into a maintenance supervisor role.

What you will do

- Prior to the plant becoming fully operational, the process engineer will
- Spend 50% of their time over the first three months at our plants in Alabama or Illinois to study the operational procedures at our existing plants to gain an understanding of:
- how the equipment is set up and the processes around them
- what the processes are that need to be put in place
- how to mirror the processes in our new Hillsboro plant
- Drive the continuous improvement in the domains of waste and seconds
- Manage the disposal of landfill and recycled material, consolidate the waste report, identify trends and recommend waste reduction solutions.
- Develop systems to measure and categorize waste and seconds.
- Suggest process improvements to reduce the production of waste and seconds.
- Design industrial trials and present a proposal to the operational team for approval.
- Undertake a rigorous approach to standardize process.
- Review the process and identify parameters that can be locked in place to reduce process variability.
- Enforce corporate process standards. This includes preparation for the annual corporate process audit and follow-up on all issues raised during the audit.
- Own the environmental stewardship of the site. This includes knowledge of significant environmental risks on the site, spill reports, disposal options and documentation.
- Prepare and host an annual environmental audit to evaluate the application of the corporate environmental guidelines
- The process engineer may be called upon to perform a number of diverse duties that relate to process knowledge and operational management. These duties may include:
- Lead process improvement teams
- Conduct problem solving exercises
- Lead plant tours
- Cover for the absence of other level 2 team members
- Lead a production shift for a period of time
- Respond to customer complaints

What you bring

- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- A minimum of 5 years direct experience in a continuous process manufacturing plant as a Process Engineer.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million dollar projects with positive measurable results. You have hands-on and supervisory experience implementing and executing on project plans.
- Continuous Improvement experience (Six Sigma, Lean or 5S) and expertise tracking and reporting on dozens of cost reduction and productivity metrics.
- Proven team building skills. You have strong written and verbal skills. You can motivate and guide the work of your team and facilitate discussions and learning where needed.
- Initiative and innovation. You can draw on your past experience and current knowledge to troubleshoot issues.
- Drive. You are proactive, detail-oriented, highly organized, deadline focused and you have the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
- Collaborative approach. You are a team player and you can develop effective working relationships across all levels of the workforce to maximize efficiencies across the organization.
