TITLE OF POSITION: Control Systems Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Chief Engineer

Position Summary – The company designs and builds industrial power converters in the range of 45kVA to 200kVA for a variety of industries. This position is part of the R&D department which designs, debugs, characterizes, releases to production, and provides product support for power converters. The control systems engineer, in tandem with a power engineer and other team members, is responsible for analyzing and modeling the rectifier and inverter circuits, and developing and optimizing closed loop control algorithms in C programming language to enable the circuits to perform per requirements. This also involves extensive lab work collecting data on the converters to verify and improve the control functions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities –

1. Perform system level analysis of the power converter functions.

2. Develop and verify closed loop control software for power conversion, including rectifier and inverter circuits.

3. Debug and characterize the control software on hardware and identify improvements.

4. Integrate the control software with the other software functions of theequipment.

5. Document the software.

6. Keep informed on the latest theories, techniques and technical developments related to control systems.

Other Qualifications –

1. Five (5) or more years related experience in control systems.

2. Experience in control systems design, including for electronic systems.

3. Experience in the use of Matlab and LTspice.

4. Experience in systems characterization.

5. Experience in developing control systems for micro-controllers and DSPs in C programming language.

6. Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital volt meters,power analyzers, etc.

7. Broad knowledge of engineering concepts (definition, design, characterization,production, sustaining)

8. Interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate between groups.

9. Proven ability to take personal responsibility for complicated design/development and take the job to completion.

Education –

1. Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar field
