Company Description:

Giv Communities is a 501 c(3) community revitalization group that works in blighted and transitional
neighborhoods along Utah’s Wasatch Front. It’s primarily known for its planning and placemaking initiatives,
facilitation of deeply supportive housing projects, and its advocacy for healthy buildings and places. It also
frequently directs the efforts of its triple bottom line, for-profit counterpart Giv Development. Commonly
referred to as Giv Group, the two are responsible for over 1,000 units of mixed-income housing.
 
As part of this mission Giv Communities endeavored to prove that a carbon neutral, all-electric multifamily project could be at less cost than traditional construction. Through a partnership with Rocky Mountain Power’s (RMP) Subscriber Solar program, Giv was able to build the first phase of Project Open, an open-source research effort that became Utah’s first carbon-neutral multifamily building to cost significantly less to construct than a traditional structure.  Using feedback from that experience, Giv has launched the Pragmatists for Clean Air Initiative – a practical, industry-based effort designed to help the Wasatch Front transition toward emission-free buildings that don’t further degrade the Wasatch Front’s fragile airshed.
