 Position summary
We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Therapeutic Ultrasound to join Molecular Imaging and Minimally Invasive Therapy (MIMIT) Laboratory at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Peking University (http://mimit-pku.org/). The position is funded by the national natural science foundation of China (NSFC) and is fixed-term for 24 months with the potential to extend.
The position will be part of a larger project with the goal of engineering an ultrasound based system for precisely non-invasive sonodynamic therapy (SDT) of cancer. You will be responsible for using a multi-element ultrasound array based on a programmable ultrasound platform (VerasonicsTM) to deliver focused ultrasound to the center of solid tumors under the guidance of ultrasound based imaging modalities. These cutting-edge modalities including ultrasonic thermal stain, fluorescence, photoacoustic and sonoluminescence imaging will potentially improve the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of human diseases ranging from heart-diseases to cancer. Ultrasonic thermal stain can be employed to monitor the temperature change and ultrasound triggered luminescence is responsible for quantifying the generation of Reactive Oxygen Species during SDT. The ideal candidate(s) will be self-motivated, able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment, and have a track record of quality publications in biomedical imaging involving ultrasound and developing hardware and software systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop imaging and therapeutic ultrasound protocols using a programmable ultrasound platform (Verasonics™).
• Build ultrasound or optical instruments for medical imaging.
• Develop protocols for tissue thermometry using ultrasonic thermal stain imaging.
• Integrate ultrasound and optical technology for sonoluminescence imaging and spectroscopy.
• Develop imaging fusion algorithms and analyze multidimensional datasets.
• Perform experiments in tissue-mimicking phantoms, biological tissue or animals.
• Produce high quality publications and mentor a team of graduate and undergraduate students.
 Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, Medical Physics or other closely related areas. In addition, they must have strong knowledge of ultrasound physics and signal processing and experience with high intensity focus ultrasound instrumentation/transducers, programming (C/C++, MATLAB), and software control of instrumentation. Experience with LabView programming, quantitative parametric analysis of ultrasound radiofrequency data, image processing, integration of ultrasound based-platforms with image-guided interventional systems, optical or photoacoustic imaging, and clinical translation of imaging technologies is preferred. Fluency in English or Chinese communication with good English writing and presentation skills is highly desirable.
 Others
The positions are open immediately, with a flexible start date. Please include a brief list of scientific accomplishments with application and send to:
