Is the efficiency of a Generator greater than that of a motor ? Why ?
Generators have mechanical efficiencies up to 95% [1].
Motors too can have mechanical efficiencies out to 95% [2].
So it appears that there is no signficant difference based on the current state of the art. This is not really surprising since really generators and motors are really the same device. One converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. The other convert electrical energy to mechanical energy.
The loss that each would have would be the same:
1. Mechanical friction
2. Electromagnetic and eddy current losses.
3. others
