Is Mechatronics too general? (thus making it hard to find a job)
Im a student in mechatronics engineering and I heard that this field is too general and therefore difficult to find a position. Example: an automotive company would rather higher specifically a mechanical major or a power company would rather higher a full electrical major.
Is there truth to this? I’m not fully sure where a B.Eng in mechatronics would be preferred.
Thanks for any feedback!
Getting a degree in Mechatronics Engineering would be the same as getting a degree in either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering a generation ago. It is the merging of those two disciplines.
Where are you in your educational process? The most important thing for an employer is working experience. You should look at getting into a cooperative education program, or get into the internship program at you university as soon as possible. They make good use of that program to get good experience before you graduate.
You can get a more general degree and develop a specialty with in the degree, there is no reason to try to get into a more specialized degree.
If you have more question, you may ask them here or consider talking to a guidance counselor or your academic adviser.
