Iridescent Colors and Specialty Embellishments Never Seen Before in Digitally Printed Pieces Now a Reality

New Xerox production press creates striking CMYK, rich metallics and iridescent special effects

Xerox is famous for inventing. The copier, laser printing, print-on-demand and the legendary Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated), where the modern GUI (Graphical User Interface), mouse, Ethernet-networked computer and object-oriented programming were invented and developed. Like all legacy institutions, everyone is always waiting for the next great thing.

They’ve released a new product, called the Xerox Iridesse Production Press.

It’s distinguishing feature is an ability to combine four-color printing with one or two specialty dry inks in a single printing pass.

The Xerox Iridesse™ Production Press is the only digital press that can print metallic gold or silver dry ink, CMYK and clear dry ink in a single pass, giving print providers an immediate competitive edge in the growing digital print enhancement market.“Iridesse can do things no other digital production press can do, but it’s what it can do for our customers that’s most important,” said Ragni Mehta, vice president and general manager, Cut Sheet Business, Xerox. “We created the press to produce these special effects and digital enhancements cost effectively and in a simplified workflow so our customers can seize the market opportunity and grow their businesses.”Iridesse eliminates multiple presses and processes usually required for print embellishments, increasing capacity and profits for customers.

The Xerox Iridesse Production Press is targeted toward enterprise users who are looking to improve their position in the digital print enhancement market. Users can amplify their ability to produce more dynamic prints and eliminates the need for multiple presses and processes. This may translate into cost savings for enterprise users and small businesses. (Image courtesy of Xerox.)

This six station color press is the only one of its kind that is capable of printing silver dry ink, metallic gold, clear dry ink and CMYK in a single pass. By eliminating multiple presses and processes generally needed for print embellishments, the ROI isn’t quite clear yet and won’t be until the cost information is made available.

Features

There are two inline specialty dry ink stations, customers will be able to create applications with mixed metallic gradients, spot colors and other special enhancements. The one-pass capability and elimination of multiple stations and processes could theoretically boost profits for print service providers.

Gold and silver dry metallic inks are generally used by print service providers on their own or layered between CMYK to make desirable iridescent pallets.

This machine prints up to 120 pages per minute. It has a “High Definition Emulsion Aggregate (HD EA) Toner” process that minimizes gloss by optimizing particle size, fine details and smooth tints.

Xerox EX-P 6 Print Server by Fiery® enables customers to create customized workflows for metallic applications with advanced RIP capabilities and color management tools. Two Dual Advanced High Capacity Feeders, Bypass and Inserter options let customers run up to eight different stocks in a single job, or do production runs with a total of 12,500 sheets.A variety of finishing options are available including the new Xerox Crease and Two-sided Trimmer, which creates a durable crease fold and gives booklets a premium quality edge when used with the Xerox Production Ready Booklet Maker Finisher and Xerox SquareFold Trimmer Modules.
