MIT’s Technology Review rates the world’s five largest technology clusters and previews a few up and comers.

Silicon Valley has long been known as a hub of innovation. It was once home solely to the IT companies that gave it its name, but in the last few decades all manner of start-ups, from medical device manufacturers to electric car companies, have forged their way in the region. But how, exactly, did a place once known primarily for its apple trees turn into the innovation capital of America?

In a new infographic, “World Innovation Clusters”, Technology Review tries to tease out why places like Silicon Valley and Tech City London have created environments where ingenuity and creativity merge to create the future of technology.
