Infinite Material Solutions develops water-soluble 3D printing support material

Post-processing continues to be a significant challenge for 3D printers creating complex parts. Breakaway support structures require tedious mechanical breakage, trimming and abrasion. Soluble support materials are often more desirable because they can be simply dissolved in either water or a solvent; however, many of the common soluble support materials are known to be brittle or use additives that can inhibit thermal stability, printability or adhesion. That is why Infinite Material Solutions developed Aquasys 120, a high-performance, water-soluble 3D printing support material designed to be compatible with a range of engineering-grade 3D printing materials.

AquaSys 120 is soluble in water, which reduces finishing time for printed parts. AquaSys 120 has been proven to dissolve up to six times faster than PVA. And unlike other PVA or BVOH filament materials, AquaSys 120 is stable when higher temperatures or more demanding print conditions are needed.

AquaSys 120 is a composite material that capitalizes on the unusual thermal stability and outstanding water solubility of a naturally occurring carbohydrate, which has been blended with a flexible and tough yet water-soluble polymer. In addition to its water solubility, AquaSys 120 is thermally stable and flexible yet tough enough to form a high-quality filament, unlike many other similar materials that are usually too brittle to form a usable filament.

A unique feature of Aquasys 120 is its adherence to a range of materials, including both hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers like ABS, PC/ABS, nylon, TPU, CPE, PC, composite materials and most other engineering-grade materials. AquaSys 120 is hydrophilic, biocompatible, biodegradable, nontoxic, noncarcinogenic and environmentally friendly.

AquaSys 120 is available in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm diameter filament for use in a variety of 3D printing platforms and materials. Components of AquaSys 120 can be used in a range of industries, including packaging, drug delivery, cosmetics, personal care products and more.
Infinite Materials Solutions will be showcasing AquaSys 120 at Formnext exhibition and conference in hall 12.1, booth G41 from November 19-22 in Frankfurt, Germany.
