The inactive and active thrust bearing on any rotating shaft are located on adjacent faces of the thrust plate. In most rotating machinery the all thrust loads are in only one direction, as a result they do not have an inactive thrust bearing.
Depending on the configuration of the industrial centrifugal compressor it may be possible that the system does not have an inactive face on the thrust bearing.
