How much carbon credit is available on hydro power projects, wind energy, plantation plants?
There is no carbon credit in the US. It’s been talked about, but that’s all.
There is a nascent carbon capital market in North America, but a much more robust system in Europe. The way the carbon credits are calculated depends on the local energy source that is being displaced. For example, if a small hydro plant generates 10MW (actually generates – not capacity), then it would displace in the range of 40,000-50,000 tonnes of carbon if the local energy alternative was 100% fossil fuels.
In reality, most areas have a mix of renewables and/or nuclear energy already in production, so the actual carbon credits calculation is discounted by the % of energy that isn’t fossil fuel based. This entire process is giving rise to a new type of auditor for carbon credits.
