Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division announced three thought leaders will join the speaker line-up at the 2021 Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG), May 2 – 6, at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, FL. MSC Software, a part of Hexagon, will highlight its latest contributions to Hexagon’s Additive Manufacturing (AM) solution portfolio in Booth #P25. A platinum sponsor, the company’s unique combination of simulation and test software is developed for engineers involved in additive manufacturing of polymers or metals. The CAE portfolio enables users to optimize the 3D printing process by refining design and printing parameters to reduce production costs, increase reliability and improve performance prior to manufacturing. AMUG is an annual event organized to disseminate advancements in processes and new technologies used in the operation of additive manufacturing equipment and the secondary or final application of parts or/and tools made from these systems.
During the event, Hexagon experts will cover the state of the current AM landscape in terms of advanced software, metrology and scanning technologies. In Booth #P25, AMUG attendees will also get a deep dive look at how MSC Software helps users efficiently design, optimize, validate, and replicate additively manufactured metal or polymer parts. They will also get a look at Hexagon’s open end-to-end AM solution. The new software solution combines Hexagon and Authentise technologies to connect workflows from design & engineering to manufacturing operations to final part quality and address industrial AM challenges in aerospace, automotive, bio-medical, tooling, and more.
On Monday, May 3 in the Lake Nona room from 1:30 – 2:30p.m. EST, Hexagon’s Giles Gaskell will kick off the Scanning & Metrology track. A recognized subject matter expert in the field of 3D metrology and scanning, Mr. Gaskell will present “An Introduction to Metrology and Scanning” with Derek Ellis of Authentise. Gaskell and Lloyd Soss of Hexagon will serve as workshop coordinators for the 3D Scanning Workshop following the presentation from 3:00 – 4:00pm. A 3D Scanning panel discussion will be held from 4:30 – 5:30pm with Gaskell, Soss and Roger Wende of Authentise serving on the Roundtable Panel. Mr. Gaskell is an advisor and 3D Scanning track leader for AMUG. For the past five years, he has presented 3D scanning workshops to a wide range of novice to expert users attending the event to advance their knowledge of commercial additive manufacturing technologies.
On Tuesday, May 4 in the Lake Nona room from 10:30 – 11:15a.m., Roger Wende of Volume Graphics will present “Inspection and Process optimization with Industrial CT” in the Scanning & Technology track. The presentation will focus on using 3D X-Ray Computed Tomography (CT) scanning to identify the correlations of process signatures, process parameters, and part quality metrics to producing a part with complex features and/or common defects. Attendees will gain a better understanding of a component’s internal and external structure through the use of CT software and hardware for three-dimensional inspection. Wende will also discuss a streamlined approach to creating the best quality component in the shortest possible time. Part of the Hexagon portfolio, VGStudio Max software provides non-destructive testing for material analysis, geometry measurements, and FEA.
On Wednesday, May 5 in the Lake Nona room from 1:30 – 2:30p.m., Jeff Roberston of MSC Software will serve on the Simulation in Additive Manufacturingpanel session. Later in the afternoon, Roberston will also present “Design to Delivery: An Integrated Additive Manufacturing Workflow” in the Platinum Sponsor program series from 4:30 – 5:30p.m. in the Florida Ballroom 1-3.Roberston’spresentation on Tuesday afternoon outlines a digital workflow for AM supporting the design through inspection process, underpinned with a robust data management platform. This integrated system of hardware and software enables engineers to effectively and efficiently manage the entire AM workflow. Roberston leads the Simufact engineering team to support automotive, aerospace, and industrial partners in mitigating manufacturing challenges through the application of manufacturing process finite element analysis (FEA) software for metal additive manufacturing and more.
