The Gear Pizza

One of the jobs I do for my school district is to unite industry with the classroom.  This is a great combination to bring about because industry has a very large stake in what the schools can produce as a workforce.  They have a direct link to each other and my job is to see how many I can unite together.  We have the fifth largest school district in the USA, here in Las Vegas, so it is a big job.  I try many times per month and it is not too often that I can make a matchup especially in these times.   I try to get some industry materials that can be used in classrooms even for show and tell or props used by teachers to show actual representative examples of items being talked about.  It is not an easy job to do and who is going to fire me, I’m retired.

You might have heard about how robotics classes are taking over in popularity in the school curriculums.  Well this is a great program curriculum, because it encourages reading and more intense studies into other subjects.  It is hard to beat a play as you learn course.  Also how else will young people be challenged to learn how things work and interplay with other things?  Electric motors and gears are a great example.  The two go together like a horse and carriage.  Do we still use them?  The point is that I recently made a nice connection to a gear manufacturing company in Minnesota and although this is a long way from the Las Vegas school district my contact there Mr. Andrew Ulrich, is sending me a small box of plastic gears for our school robotics courses.  The kids and teachers will love the gift.  These times are hard on schools and teachers.  I know we have teachers dipping into their own pockets to buy materials.  I applaud this company for rolling up its sleeves and helping education out in this way.  Their web site is fully packed with information and it has an on-line interactive plastic gear sizing calculator as well.  I’ve never seen one of them before.   http://www.ufeinc.com/   I had to put in a plug for them here and I think they deserve it.  If we would all try to help one another during a crisis or when the good times come back again, we can overcome anything.  “we reap what we sow” when we help, we will get helped.

Now for the biggest mystery of all.  The Gear Pizza and I know you are going to hate me, but my Mr. Ulrich, uses a picture in his emails and here it is.  I really love this one.  J  Now that is an everything pizza.  MMmmm Goooood.  That’s a Nice a.
