Advantest will exhibit its production and test automation products for the wireless electronics market at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, from February 26 through March 1. The company will present the first public debut of its 5G mmWave test system, which emulates both the 5G network and the device under test, helping to accelerate the R&D and production of 5G devices and modems.

The system integrates radio software layers, including packet core network and test automation management, with a physical layer mmWave Transceiver System and software-defined radio (SDR) communications to perform end-to-end, over-the-air 5G tests. The 5G mmWave test system also gives operators the ability to perform lab-environment verification of system interoperability, performance and functions in an automated mode.

ASM Assembly Systems has launched a series of production printing and placement equipment. The DEK NeoHorizon and Horizon 8 printers, and the SIPLACE SX and TX placement platforms, feature the MultiStar placement heads, which, when combined with line optimization, provide increased Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

In addition, ASM ProcessExpert uses stencil Gerber data and its knowledge base to make print process input (stencil type, solder paste, squeegee length, PCB support tooling and clamping) and parameter (print speed, print pressure, separation speed and cleaning rate) recommendations.

LPKF Pulse Laser Processing

LPKF has introduced the ProtoLaser R for use in research and development laboratories. It enables the processing of thin layers and sensitive materials. The ultrashort pulse (USP) laser processes materials precisely and without being affected by thermal interference in the surrounding area. This cold ablation is of particular interest for the micro and nano-scale structuring of sensitive materials.

For example, with a laser beam diameter of 15μm, the ProtoLaser R structures and cuts 0.2mm thin carbon foils for low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) technology. Metallization on titanate can also be structured precisely and quickly, and the material can be drilled and cut as needed without thermal stress.

Information about pricing and availability can be found on LPKF’s website.

Nordson Selective Soldering System

Nordson has released the Integra 508.5, a multi-station selective soldering system designed for high-volume applications. With its flexible configuration, the Integra 508.5 can be equipped for either single, parallel or double processing. When configured with dual drop-jet fluxers and dual solder pots, the system can solder two boards at the same time in each soldering station. Alternatively, when operated in the parallel mode, the Integra 508.5 can process up to 10 boards at one time.

The Integra 508.5 is available in either two or three soldering station variants, which are designed to meet a range of soldering applications. Both soldering station models have top and bottom preheating directly after fluxing, and can be equipped for either single, parallel or double processing.

Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) has launched a series of conformal coating devices, including the PrecisionCoat V, PrecisionCoat BT, Omegameter SMD 650 and Parylene coating services. The PrecisionCoat V’s conformal coating and dispense valves move along a three-axis system, and the service includes an option to add programmable fourth and fifth axes for tilt and rotation capabilities. The system’s multi-valve technology allows for the application of dots, lines, fills, glob tops and spray coat areas.

In addition, the Automatic Tool Change provides the functionality to rapidly pick up the active valve or tool, then drop it off and pick up another. This can be performed with up to five valves within the same program, with no operator intervention, while still maintaining the unit’s work area.
