EPLAN Platform 2.7 Adds Automation Integration and More

v2.7 includes a bi-directional connection to TIA Portal and MELSOFT iQ Works, plus a new piping module.

Computer-aided engineering (CAE) company EPLAN Software & Service has released version 2.7 of its EPLAN Platform for engineering design. EPLAN Platform 2.7 adds bi-directional connections to two automation solutions, Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal and Mitsubishi Electric’s MELSOFT iQ Works.

The bi-directional interface between EPLAN Platform and the new automation interfaces aims to save users from the time-consuming hassle of manually checking project changes, as users can exchange, edit and synchronize data at all stages of their projects. And, since all of EPLAN Platform’s CAE solutions share a uniform database, project information can easily be shared between engineering disciplines.

Also included in the v2.7 release is better handling for wire harness engineering, improved viewing options for connection hardware, heat-shrink tubing that allows plugs to be assigned in both 2D and 3D environments, and a new piping module as part of EPLAN Preplanning.

One of the most significant 2.7 updates, the piping module, is designed to accelerate the planning stage of machine, production line and plant engineering. It allows users to define piping with source and destination values before drawing a piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID).

Additionally, the Preplanning piping module includes the Segment Template Navigator, a tool that enables users to input piping data such as pipe class and substance. The module also allows this data to be stored as connections, connection definition points, and functions, so users can color-code selected piping and expand pipe routing piece by piece. Altogether, EPLAN expects the new piping module to accelerate the preplanning phase of engineering projects.
