New products from Digi-Key, Extron, Hitachi, Pasternack and RS Components.
Digi-Key Wireless Sensor Network
Digi-Key has released an Internet of Things (IoT) development platform that allows makers and engineers to prototype sensor-to-cloud devices. The PSoC 6 Wireless Sensor Network IoT Dev Platform features a dual-core microcontroller architecture, with Arm Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores integrated onto a single chip.
Furthermore, a sensor node is created utilizing PSoC 4 BLE, the IoT add-on shield, and a Qwiic environmental sensor. Data is then transmitted via BLE to a PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit, which also has the IoT add-on shield and leverages an Xbee Wi-Fi module. The environmental sensor data is then transmitted via Wi-Fi to the ThingSpeak cloud IoT analytics service.

Extron Audio Interface
Extron has announced the availability of the AXI 02 AT, a compact audio interface that extracts two channels from a Dante audio network, providing a way to connect devices that don’t offer Dante connectivity. The device provides two line-level analog outputs on captive screw connectors with a mirrored two-channel S/PDIF output on a coaxial RCA connector.
The AXI 02 AT interfaces with a Dante audio network over a standard local area network and is powered through PoE. The AXI 02 AT includes a ZipClip 100 Mounting Kit and is compatible with Extron rack shelves and ZipClip 200 mounting systems.
Additional technical specifications can be found on Extron’s website.
Hitachi Construction IoT Technology
Hitachi has developed a system (as of yet, unnamed) to increase productivity and safety on the front lines of construction using IoT technologies. Specifically, the system will increase productivity at construction sites by using dedicated devices to monitor, in real time, information on the position and movement of workers and construction machinery and the status of operations. It will also increase safety by using triaxial acceleration and air pressure sensors in the devices to quickly determine when workers have fallen down or entered dangerous environments.
The system uses a dedicated device with no need for a smartphone or other smart device. Positional information on workers and construction machinery is monitored at indoor construction sites using beacons and at outdoor construction sites using GPS and is therefore not influenced by mobile phone reception, providing real-time monitoring of positional information both indoors and outdoors.

Pasternack Coaxial RF Probes
Pasternack has released a line of coaxial RF probes and probe-positioning hardware. These devices are suited for signal integrity verification, chip evaluations, coplanar waveguide, circuit debugging and test fixture applications. The line consists of four coaxial RF probes and one RF PCB probe positioner.
The RF coaxial probes provide frequency performance up to 20GHz and return loss better than 10dB. They feature gold-plated contacts and compliant coaxial GSG (or GS) pogo pins. The probes have a pitch of 800 and 1,500 microns and a 3.5mm female interface and can be cable mounted. They can be used by hand, with or without a probe positioner, and the pogo pin design allows for a range of probing angles.
Information concerning pricing and availability is located on Pasternack’s website.
RS Components Infrared Temperature Sensor
RS Components has launched the RS Pro infrared temperature sensor. Key features of the device include its small size—31mm diameter by 30mm height—and side-entry cable, making it ideal for mounting in areas were space is limited. Other features include 125ms response time, built-in temperature display and controls.
The device is essentially a non-contact thermometer that is designed to measure temperature from a distance. Although the unit is similar in operation to handheld temperature measurement guns, the RS Pro device is intended as a permanent measurement unit for fixed mounting via a bracket, for example to install on manufacturing machinery to measure product temperature, or to monitor the condition of machine parts.
