The LASERTEC 125 3D hybrid is the company’s latest welding model.
DMG MORI announced it will be revealing the newest addition to its LASERTEC 3D hybrid series, the LASERTEC 125 3D hybrid, at Formnext 2019. The five-axis laser machine is specially designed for work pieces measuring up to ø 1,250 x 745mm and weights of up to 2,000kg.
DMG MORI introduced its first LASERTEC, the LASERTEC 65 3D hybrid back in 2013. The company subsequently extended the line to meet manufacturers’ particular needs with the LASERTEC 4300 3D hybrid, which combines a powder nozzle and turn-mill machining into a single workstation. According to the company’s description, “The damaged area is first prepared by milling before the repair is carried out with laser deposition welding. The part is then finished in a final milling process—all in a single setup.”
The LASERTEC 125 3D hybrid diversifies DMG MORI’s portfolio to include a model designed entirely for the maintenance, repair and production of larger parts and dies. Its machine construction and dynamics are based on the monoBLOCK series. It functions as a single setup with an automatic changeover between laser deposition welding and five-axis simultaneous milling. According to the company, this is ideal for manufacturers that want to significantly reduce processing times since the feature eliminates steps such as heat treatment. The machine is also capable of depositing material with a hardness of up to 63 HRC.
One of the key features of the LASERTEC 125 3D hybrid is its new ability to simultaneously manage part production and repair. It can carry out hard welding in one area while corrosion-resistant welding is completed in another. Because of its powder nozzle technology, components like cutter blades can immediately be put to use again within one shift. Additionally, its cooling performance allows it to quickly change between two materials.
Similar to previous models, the LASERTEC 125 3D can be integrated into the hybrid CAD/CAM process chain. Production management is made capable with AM Assistant and Siemens NX.
AM Assistant is responsible for control, evaluation and quality assurance of the product process. The technology is based on a sensor system intended specifically for process monitoring. It also includes an integrated thermal camera for continuous thermal monitoring.
Siemens NX supplied the machine with a CAM software solution dedicated for DMG MORI for its powder nozzle technology. It’s what makes the end-to-end programming of repairs and seamless changes possible.
