Designer Edge Image of the Day – 7-8-13 – Mexico’s First Supercar Gets an Early Debut

Mexico’s first supercar has just been unveiled and it’s a beauty. Although brothers Iker and Guillermo Echeverria had previously said they’d debut their auto at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, their amazing machine couldn’t be held back any longer. In a small ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club the VUHL 05 made its debut.

Built around a 2.0 liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine, the VUHL 05 is said to accelerate from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.7seconds and has top speed of 245km/h (152mph). However, the most striking aspect of the VUHL 05 is it’s RTM plastic that’s wrapped around a chrome-moly steel subframe.  While the car’s body emphasizes aerodynamic performance I was left wondering why the Echeverria brothers added more wind resistance by cutting out the windshield. I guess some things can only be explained by style.
