Switzerland’s École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is reimagining what future air travel, and transit in general might look like. Called ClipAir, the technology basically decouples an airplanes fuselage from its wing and uses it as a multi-purpose transit vessel.
In the ClipAir scheme a plane’s fuselage will begins journey at a rail station. From there passengers will board the fuselage and when it’s full it’ll chug over to the airport. Once the fuselage arrives at the airport it will be coupled with a wing and then be ready for takeoff.
