Researchers, led by John A. Rogers, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are advancing what it means to have a wide angle camera lens. Modeled after an insect’s eye, Rogers’ lens uses numerous photo-diodes scattered across a lenses hemisphere to create a complete 180 degree view with a near infinite depth of field.
