Computer Simulation Technology AG to join 3DEXPERIENCE fold.

Dassault Systèmes has signed an agreement to acquire the electromagnetic (EM) and electronics simulation company Computer Simulation Technology AG (CST). The purchase will be for about EUR€220,000,000(USD$2,460,000).
The purpose of this purchase is to beef up the EM and multiphysics capabilities of SIMULIA within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. CST’s simulation technology is designed to assess the EM effects of a product throughout the development cycle.
CST can assess the electromagnetic behavior of electronics, electromechanics, antenna and other electrical devices. It can simulate the interaction of these EM sources with each other. CST reports that the technology can assess the full spectrum of EM frequencies and length scales.
“Electromagnetism is an essential part of a multiphysics simulation strategy for the development of smart and connected products and Internet of Things devices—from their complex design to ensuring the performance, reliability and safety of their interactions with their surrounding environment,” said Bernard Charlès, CEO of Dassault Systèmes. “The acquisition of CST is part of our larger, ongoing mission to provide 3DEXPERIENCE universes to explore, accelerate and experience innovation that will achieve a greater harmony between product, nature and life.”
Dassault Systèmes reports that current CST customers, like Airbus, Bosch and Sirona, should expect to see continual support for the CST product. One change they can expect to see is the integration of CST’s technology into SIMULIA’s multiphysics capabilities for structural mechanics, multibody simulations, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
Over the past few years, Dassault Systèmes has been acquiring a number of CAD and CAE technologies and incorporating them into its overarching 3DEXPERIENCE design platform. Some of these recent acquisitions over the years include:
- FE-DESIGN for topology optimization
- Modelon for model-based systems engineering
- SIMPACK for multi-body simulations

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is the ideal foundation upon which we can pursue our vision of combining our technologies to set the industry standard for realistic simulation and best meet our customers’ needs.”
The finalization of the CST purchase is expected to be completed by Q4 2016.
