Dassault Rolls out New Release of Cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE 2015x

Dassault Systèmes rolled out the new release of its 3DEXPERIENCE platform this week. R2015x offers a simplified and improved user experience with many new features that are said to significantly increase productivity on premise, as well as on public or private cloud.

According to the company, all of its cloud customers were successfully and seamlessly upgraded to R2015x within a few hours, including design and engineering, 3D design, IP governance and lifecycle, simulation and manufacturing, making it the largest cloud portfolio in the market.

“Every single cloud customer is already taking advantage of the volume of new enhancements we’ve implemented in R2015x, demonstrating the power of the cloud model,” said Dominique Florack, senior executive vice president, research & development, Dassault Systèmes. “We are the first to truly take advantage of this model, in its simplicity, for our customers of all types and sizes.”

In the age of experience, as business complexities grow, more companies are looking for one business platform to create innovative experiences from product to point-of-sale. Providing companies with functional tools that both add value and simplify tasks is crucial.

R2015x combines new user interface, applications, services and cloud infrastructure enhancements to offer a more robust performance and improved quality and usability, as well as full social collaboration capabilities. Business units that employ Dassault Systèmes’ portfolio of Industry Solution Experiences and users of its brand applications in the company’s twelve industries now enjoy increased productivity and an enriched user experience.

The Mechatronics Systems Engineer role allows the use of kinematic mechanisms defined in 3D as inputs to a Modelica systems model in order to simulate and analyze its dynamic behavior in a single integrated environment.

R2015x also includes hundreds of industry-specific enhancements to the platform’s on premise and public or private cloud portfolio of Industry Solution Experiences. For example, users can now benefit from more than 250 new capabilities within the transportation and mobility industry alone, such as composites braiding and–in systems engineering–the ability to openly exchange models with support of the functional mock-up standard and to include kinematics.

In the architecture, engineering and construction industry, civil engineers can prepare for infrastructure design by creating a realistic 3D model of ground and underground. In life sciences, the portfolio addresses collaborative authoring and engineering of biological entities and pathways, as well as navigation of scientific information.

Customizing apps according to “roles”

In addition, R2015x introduces groupings of applications called ‘roles’ to best match users’ needs. They are designed to cover a broader set of activities that users need to accomplish in industry-specific domains. Users of the platform can access and select roles directly from the 3DCompass of the user interface. Examples of roles include: creative designer, project manager, stress analysis engineer or process planner. In R2015x, there are 219 roles on premise, 115 roles on public cloud and 115 roles on private cloud.

The Composites Braiding Designer role provides an advanced simulation environment that enables designers to predict and visualize fiber paths on complex surfaces, and optimize machine parameters requirements.

Visual Experience Designer role delivers real-time “live” rendering visualization so that a designer can work directly in a highly realistic visual environment. It makes the rendering and artwork creation of high-quality photorealistic images as easy as using a camera. It provides an integrated and easy to use experience to create and manipulate environments, lighting, apply materials, and visualize your product with realtime or interactive ray-tracing with “global illumination” algorithms for accurate design decision.

Among R2015x’s key user interface developments, users can enjoy touch-friendly ease of use and can effortlessly customize their interface and toolbars, which is a particular advantage for expert tasks. All applications are touch-enabled, and a real or virtual touch pad allows faster and easier access to a customized set of applications. Simplified editing features, accelerated loading of large sessions and better contextual toolbar availability further contribute to the quality of the user experience.
