More control over additive builds with Concept Laser Parameter Editor

Certain parts of the additive manufacturing process can be a challenge, especially for the process engineer setting up the additive machine for a build. Different parameters work better for different geometries. But, depending on the additive machine and the software you use, you may not be able to control these parameters, at least not without help from the vendor.

Concept Laser will be offering a solution to this challenge. I had a sneak peek while at the IMTS show at the new software they will be introducing.  This new program is an offshoot of CL WRX Office software, which is used to set up the next build on an office PC while another build is occurring on the machine. CL WRX Office fits the needs of the majority of users, providing limited control over the basic processing parameters. For advanced users of additive manufacturing, Concept Laser will have a more advanced version of the CL WRX family, called CL WRX Parameter, for organizations that would like to take advantage of complete process control.

This version will let experienced additive users program part geometries, beyond fill and contour, prior to the additive build. Users can adjust 15 parameters, five for each geometry. These parameters include surface finish and layer thickness down to 25 microns.

This program will let users set parameters for printing layer to layer, overhang angles, as well as build specifications for specific print materials. The ability to adjust these parameters to suit the machine, the build material, and the design part will give users more control over the overall build speed and quality.

The program also lets you separate a part into “regions,” where the parameters only apply to certain portions of a part.

This capability is especially useful for those who want to lock in a specific set of parameters, so that all operators need do is simply push the execute button to begin a build.
