Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D printed metals announced it signed an agreement with Fryer Machine Systems, a producer of high-quality, affordable machine tools.
As part of the agreement, Fryer will integrate Optomec LENS metal additive manufacturing solution into its new LaserFab 3D hybrid machining centers. Pricing for Fryer’s hybrid VMCs (Vertical Machining Centers) will start under $350,000.
Fryer’s LaserFab series feature a high power fiber laser and a high performance VMC for high speed machining. Standard features include a 1.5-second 24 tool ATC (Automatic Tool Changer), a 15,000 RPM inline spindle (30,000 RPM option), a high torque 30 HP motor and a 1,900 IPM rapid feed rate. Combined with roller type linear ways and heavy duty FEA designed castings, the LaserFab can print and finish machine parts to a 4-micron tolerance.
Optomec has packaged its metal 3D Printing solution into a modular LENS Print Engine for easy integration with metal working platforms such as CNC mills, lathes, robots, custom gantries, or even laser cutting and welding systems. The modular LENS Print Engine components include Optomec proprietary SteadyFlow™ powder feeders, LENS processing head with interchangeable nozzles, fiber laser, PartPrep™ and 5-Axis tool path generation software, and SmartAM™ closed loop process controls.
Optomec’s LENS family of 3D metal printers are often used to cost-effectively repair, rework and manufacture high-performance metal components and wear coatings in materials such as titanium, stainless steel, carbides and super alloys.
