College offers new master’s degree for career-minded engineers

recently approved online master’s degree offered by The Ohio State University College of Engineering

Only nine percent of respondents to a recent American Society of Quality survey said engineers would be best suited at the top of the corporate ladder. A recently approved online master’s degree offered by The Ohio State University College of Engineering meets that challenge head on.

The Master of Global Engineering Leadership (MGEL) is a professional degree for practicing engineers who want to enhance their management acumen, leadership skills and technical expertise to succeed in today’s competitive global business environment. The new degree can be completed in 16 to 24 months and is delivered completely online to accommodate working professionals.

The MGEL will prepare students to advance to leadership roles, lead teams and projects in domestic and global settings, effectively apply knowledge in innovative directions, recognize the important aspects of business-government relations and apply the fundamentals of managerial accounting to manage successful projects.

“This degree is our first initiative in offering a portfolio of professional education opportunities to help engineers and architects further their career development,” said Director of Professional Programs Bob Mick.

The unique curriculum combines engineering with business leadership, ethics, global issues, project management and public policy. In addition to the required core courses, students can choose to focus on their choice of three tracks of in-depth technical courses: automotive systems engineering, enterprise service and architectures or materials joining. Each track includes a focus on relative global issues, plus an integrative project, to prepare professionals for life-long learning in a changing technological world.

MGEL courses are taught by Ohio State faculty experts from the College of Engineering, John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the Fisher College of Business.
