Cloud PLM Rising: Arena Solutions Grows, Adds New Products

As bigger PLM vendors have introduced or enhanced their Cloud-based PLM products, awareness and comfort level to adopt Cloud-based PLM products have increased.

Arena Solutions is unique among cloud based PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) vendors in that, since its inception in early 2000s, the firm has focused on the Internet for its product delivery. Arena’s core strength has been managing the BOM (Bill of Material) function…in fact the original name of the company was www.bom.com. Over the years Arena has expanded its portfolio of PLM suites that includes compliance, BOM, document, change, item, quality management modules. It’s Scribe and Exchange collaboration solutions focus on streamlining supply chain by integrating engineering and manufacturing processes.

Several potential PLM buyers have expressed security and bandwidth concerns about PLM in the Cloud, especially the ones that are in the defense sector, but small to mid-sized PLM buyers have always been on the lookout for a reliable Cloud-based PLM collaboration solution. The adoption of the Cloud in PLM has been slower than in other industries, but as the bigger PLM vendors have introduced or enhanced their Cloud-based PLM products, the awareness and the comfort level to adopt Cloud-based PLM products have increased. With Arena Solutions’ years of experience hosting proprietary data for manufacturers, it is expected that Arena will gain significant advantage from its Cloud experience as well.

Recently, Arena announced that its overall subscription base grew 140 percent in the third quarter of 2014 over the same period last year, growth due to new customers. In net new subscription terms, Arena bagged a 61% increase.  Arena named nine new customers from various industries namely Advanced OncotherapyActiontec Electronics, Authentix, Blue Microphones, DEKA, Motion Solutions, R.J. Corman Railpower, Tempronics and VTS Medical Systems.

Arena has also launched their Fall 2014 new releases. They include new products: Arena Scribe and Arena DataExtract, as well as enhancements to Arena Quality. Arena Scribe is a social collaboration platform that keeps a record of conversation and data exchange between designers, manufacturers and suppliers.

Arena also released its data analysis enablement product Arena DataExtract that extracts process data (Changes, Requests, Quality and Projects) to a standard flat file format for input into various analytics tools. DataExtract is aimed at enabling customers to identify trends, solve issues and to improve  their process efficiencies.
