Cloud-Based Simulation Enables High-Performance Engineering

Altair's Rick Watkins on why the cloud is the future of engineering design.

In a sense all engineering is about simulation. From the days of the slide rule, engineers and designers ran “what if?” Scenarios in their minds and then backed it up with iterative calculations to look for direction toward a solution. Then we went to mainframes and PCs, and basically automated that process, and brought it to the desktop. Today we’ve introduced decentralized computation through the cloud.

Regardless of the technology, engineering design and development is still about ideation, followed by simulation, whether it’s between the engineer’s ears, or with advanced software. Jim Anderton discusses the state-of-the-art in this critical technology with Rick Watkins, Senior Director, Cloud Solutions at Altair.
