Carbon expands access to digital manufacturing platform at Formnext

At Formnext, Carbon is making two major announcements about its latest efforts to expand access to the Carbon Digital Manufacturing Platform globally. First, Carbon’s largest format printer, the L1 printer, is available to order. Leading companies such as adidas, Riddell, and Dentsply Sirona are already using the L1 printer to accelerate innovation and bring breakthrough products to market.

Additionally, Jabil, will join the Carbon Production Network, further expanding access to the Carbon Platform. Healthcare applications leveraging the Carbon Digital Manufacturing Platform will be a central focus of the partnership.

The Carbon L1 printer helps product designers, engineers, contract manufacturers, 3D printing labs, and Centers of Excellence to accelerate their product development process at every stage, from prototyping through validation and ultimately the production of millions of units. With approximately 5x the build area of the Carbon M2 printer, the L1 printer can fabricate bigger parts or manufacture many parts simultaneously, helping companies deliver innovative products and improve overall production efficiency. The Carbon family of production-ready materials, such as rigid polyurethane (RPU), elastomeric polyurethane (EPU), epoxy (EPX), and silicone (SIL) are compatible with the L1 printer.

Initially released earlier this year on a limited basis, the L1 printer is already behind many product innovations with the Carbon Digital Manufacturing Platform. Some of the world’s most iconic brands such as adidas, Riddell, and Specialized are actively scaling their production volumes using Carbon L1 printers.

“We think of adidas 4D as the future of our performance footwear, and with the L1 printer and Carbon’s Digital Manufacturing Platform, in just two years we’ve been able to go from a conceptual FutureCraft design to a running shoe that has revolutionized the footwear industry,” said Marco Kormann, Director of Future Technology Innovation at adidas.

In dental, the L1 printer is central to the L1 Production Solution, an end-to-end solution for thermoforming and the large-scale production of clear aligners. The L1 printer allows dental laboratories to produce thousands of high-quality Crafted by Carbon clear aligners per day.

Starting today Carbon is accepting orders for the L1 printer. L1 printers will begin shipping in the first half of 2020. Similar to Carbon’s other full-service offerings, the L1 printer will be available via subscription for $250,000 per year for a 3-year term.

Jabil joins Carbon production network
