If the sulphuric acid is at room temperature, either type 304 or 316 should be capable. This comes with a number of precautions, however. At higher temperatures, the resistance to this concentrated acid diminishes. Also, contamination of the acid can reduce the corrosion-resistance capability of these alloys. I presume you are considering the “L” grades in order to weld the tanks and connections. There can be irregularities in the weld surfaces or contaminants left on them that may affect corrosion resistance. Also keep in mind that, when dispensing most of the acid, there may be a small amount left from which the water may evaporate leading to a higher concentration and the initiation of corrosion. When designing or building (or having built) such tanks, consultation with a corrosion engineering expert with experience with this type of acid is recommended (I am not such an expert – therefore I am only giving you general guidelines).
