The improved surface modeling capabilities help you prepare models more quickly. All freeform holes on a model, such as those created to house ejector pins, can automatically be addressed with a single click, preventing tooling from damaging products.

Complex features such as slots created by electrodes can be automatically accessed using the advanced surfacing function, removing the need to generate complex surface patches. The software is suited for 3- and 5-axis machining. For example, a tapered pocket side wall requires 5-axis Swarf Cutting and freeform chamfers to be finished. All features can be extracted from the 3D CAD model.

To help identify areas that require rest machining, a model’s actual radius surfaces within a given size range are automatically identified and extracted for re-machining. Similar tools also enable the selection of chained radius faces so the entire freeform filleted features can be easily chosen. Freeform may include numerous planar faces that require the application of normal facing operations. The software searches for and extracts all planar faces on a freeform model, and machines them as individual 2.5 pockets and eliminates the possibility of gauging and tool collisions.
