Aerospace company will operate as Calspan Systems Corporation.

Calspan Holdings recently announced the acquisition of Triumph Aerospace Systems – Newport News, Inc. Triumph will now operate as Calspan Systems Corporation alongside another Calspan Holdings subsidiary, the aerospace and automotive research company, Calspan Corporation.
Calspan Systems Corporation
Triumph Aerospace Systems – Newport News, Inc., now Calspan Systems Corporation, is an engineering, design, analysis and manufacturing firm. It was previously a subsidiary of the Triumph Group. The company focuses on three primary business areas, described on the Triumph Group website as follows:
- Turbomachinery – aerothermal, mechanical and turbopump rigs, engine assemblies, propulsion components
- Composites – custom, complex composite structures for various aerospace applications
- Test Devices – force measurement systems, prototype and flight test hardware, test stands, propulsion and actuation simulators, wind tunnel models, rotorcraft blades
Calspan Systems Corporation will retain its management, technical and support staff, remaining at its current headquarters in Newport News, Va. Triumph Aerospace’s Force Measurement Systems (FMS) division, which was also included in the acquisition, will continue to operate from its current facility in San Diego, Calif.
A Mutually Beneficial Acquisition
The Triumph Group announced a transformation strategy earlier this year, and the recent acquisition plays into this plan.
“The sale of Triumph Aerospace Systems-Newport News to Calspan is in the best interest of all companies involved,” said Triumph Group CEO Dan Crowley. “The sale will allow Triumph to focus more intently on our core business capabilities. I am confident that under Calspan, the company will have greater opportunities for growth.”
Calspan Holdings agreed, with CEO Louis Knotts commenting on the benefits of the acquisition.
“We are very pleased to add Calspan Systems Corporation to our company, and expand our capabilities in providing our customers with a heightened expertise in aerospace engineering, testing, and design,” said Knotts. “This transaction is a winning combination for Calspan’s customers, employees and partners, as it builds on and complements the significant foundation already in place.”
