IT consulting company Whitehat Virtual has announced a partnership with workstation hardware provider BOXX Technologies. The partnership will see Whitehat Virtual as the preferred virtual desktop services partner for BOXX, which provides workstation and server hardware targeted at visualization professionals.

“Only BOXX has the experience and product portfolio to provide engineers, architects, and 3D artists with bare-metal performance in a virtual environment. With Whitehat Virtual managed services and support, we are extending our expertise in high-performance computing with a VDI services partner we trust,” commented Tim Lawrence, Founder and VP of Engineering at BOXX.

BOXX FLEXX and BOXX Cloud

Earlier this year we reviewed the BOXX FLEXX, a rack-mountable server system capable of hosting up to 10 distinct compute nodes. There are a variety of FLEXX nodes purpose-built for high-end workflows including GPU rendering, CPU rendering, and simulation. BOXX considers them server-shaped workstations capable of replacing an engineer’s local desktop.

The FLEXX hardware is also available through a service called BOXX Cloud, wherein users rent the servers from BOXX rather than purchasing them outright. Regardless of whether users own or rent the hardware, it is no trivial task to setup and manage a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). That’s where Whitehat Virtual intends to come in.

“At Whitehat Virtual, we’ve seen and solved it all when it comes to high-performance computing on VDI,” said Whitehat Virtual CEO Val King. “We are pleased to bring our expertise to the BOXX community of power-computing users and we look forward to bringing BOXX innovations and high-performance hardware to Whitehat Virtual customers.”

The IT consultant’s services will be available for purchase through BOXX, with the combined offering being billed as an “‘Easy Button’ for demanding VDI scenarios.”

Whitehat Virtual Promises Citrix, VMware, and vGPU Expertise

Whitehat Virtual prides itself on its extensive experience with Citrix, one of the leading desktop virtualization software platforms (for more information on Citrix, read our recent research report: What is the Best Remote Desktop Protocol for Engineers?). According to Whitehat Virtual, the company has 38 years of Citrix experience. This presumably refers to its individual consultants’ combined experience, as Citrix was founded only 32 years ago.

Regardless, Whitehat Virtual boasts knowledge of over 1500 optimizations for virtual environments, spanning both Citrix and its competitor VMware. The company also points to its partnership with NVIDIA and its experience with virtual GPUs as a selling point for BOXX customers.

“The arrival of new virtual GPU (vGPU) technologies places heightened demands on virtual desktop technology,” King claimed. “For users of high-performance graphic applications that want the ability to work from anywhere there is an Internet connection, virtual desktops (VDI) must be paired with vGPU technology and optimized to deliver the performance and user experience digital workers need.”
