Qatar Airways to add new 787s, 777s, and 737s to its fleet.

Qatar Airways recently announced one of the largest fleet additions in the airline’s history, with an order from Boeing valued at $18.6 billion. Qatar Airways has ordered 30 787-9 Dreamliners and 10 777-300ERs, with a Letter of Intent for up to 60 737 MAX 8s.
Expanding an Airline
The new order builds upon Qatar Airways’ current fleet of 84 Boeing planes, comprised of 787s and 777s delivered over the last nine years. Within that time, Qatar Airways became the first airline to operate the Boeing 787 in the Middle East.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is a wide-body, twin-aisle airplane that holds up to 290 passengers and has a range of 7,635 nautical miles (14,140 km). The Boeing 777-300ER is another twin-aisle plane with a passenger capacity of 365 and a range of 7,370 nmi (13,649 km).
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is a single-aisle plane, and the Letter of Intent marks what will be the first Boeing single-aisle plane to join Qatar Airlines’ fleet in over 15 years. The 737 MAX 8 seats 200 passengers and has a range of 3,515 nmi (6,510 km).
“We are so very proud that a discerning and market-leading customer like Qatar Airways not only continues to endorse our current products, but also has confidence in Boeing’s new technology that will soon be evident on the 777X and 737 MAX,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner. “Our partnership with Qatar Airways has grown and strengthened tremendously over the years and I look forward to the time when its fleet will feature an increasing number of both our single and twin-aisle airplanes.”
Boeing and Qatar Airways aren’t the only ones pleased with the deal – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker also weighed in on the plane order.
“Beyond its importance for these two companies, this agreement demonstrates the importance of global commercial partnerships in strengthening our bilateral ties,” she said. “This deal will strengthen economic opportunity and job creation, and highlights the importance of strong global trading relationships.”
