BobCAD-CAM’s new nesting solution brings big savings to CNC cutting operations.
BobCAD-CAM has announced the release of two new software modules, Nesting Standard and Nesting Pro, both of which will be welcomed by CAM users.
According to BobCAD-CAM, both packages will offer advanced nesting features that reduce waste by up to 15 percent. To achieve these results, both Nesting packages optimize object patterning for CNC milling, laser, plasma and waterjet cutting operations.
“The whole purpose of nesting is to maximize your material usage so you get more parts and profit out of every sheet while reducing the amount of scrap material,” explained Greg Myers, director of software development at BobCAD-CAM. “With this new release, we’ve upped the level of control the user has over nearly every aspect of the nest, while, at the same time, we’ve increased the intelligence level of the software to deliver part placements that result in much higher material utilization rates.”
In order to realize the degree of savings that BobCAD-CAM’s nesting software is capable of delivering, the software gives users a suite of algorithms that can reconfigure a sheet in myriad ways. Nesting users are given the option to create nested cutting patterns that either use optimization or forgo the process. If a user chooses to define a pattern without optimization, the Nesting software can build a result in a matter of seconds. However, if optimization is key to a project, coming in at, or under, that option can be selected, and Nesting will perform up to 102 iterative optimization trials in an effort to build the best pattern possible. While that process might take a bit of time, users can expect anywhere between 3 percent and 15 percent material savings. For jobs that require expensive alloys or mass production schemes, those numbers can mean big savings.
While Nesting’s ability to tackle complex cutting paths on full sheets is impressive, the software’s ability to do the same with customized or remnant sheets makes it an even more powerful tool for reducing production costs.
Both Nesting Standard and Nesting Pro are fully compatible with BobCAD-CAM CNC and are available now.
