Bluebeam Software – Taking PDF to the Enterprise

Bluebeam Software, maker of PDF creating, editing, markup, and collaboration tools, is taking their next version on the road.  See what's new in the upcoming release and find out how you can use PDF in your paperless workflows.

There are plenty of choices out there when selecting PDF applications.  From the built-in PDF writer/printer of your authoring software to any number of 3rd parties that can create, edit, markup, and share 2D- and 3D-PDF files.  In the MCAD space, we typically focus on applications that support 3D PDF and the design standards defined in industry specifications like ASME Y14.41 or MIL-STD-31000.  But, having such a narrow view may limit the usefulness of downstream processes that could potentially take advantage of the PDF file.  Bluebeam Software has been working on utilizing PDF for paperless workflows since 1997.

Bluebeam Software has four main applications:

  1. Revu – PDF creation, markup, editing, and collaboration.
  2. Vu – free PDF viewer for Windows and iPad.
  3. Q – An enterprise, server-based solution to automate PDF publishing.
  4. bFX – Integrate Revu with project management tools, websites, and more.

One of the features I like from Bluebeam’s Revu software is the VisualSearch.  This is the only graphical search engine I have encountered within a PDF tool.  Revu integrates with MS Office, Sharepoint, and even a few of your favorite CAD programs.

The next version of Revu is right around the corner.  You can join the “Road to Revu12” or attend one of the pre-release webinars to get a sneak peak of what’s to come.  If you are attending COFES 2014, you can also catch up with a couple representatives from Bluebeam Software in Scottsdale, AZ in April.
