Redesigned inserts aim to improve tool sharpness.
Tooling systems maker BIG KAISER has
introduced a new modular round chamfering tool called the R-Cutter CKB Type.
The R-Cutter CKB3 & CKB5 is an ultra-high feed front and back radius
chamfering mill which features high rake angles designed to reduce cutting
resistance and minimize burr generation.
In engineering this tool, BIG KAISER wanted
to find a way to improve upon the sharpness of their previous insert designs.
To this end, the new cutter features a unique insert geometry. The four-insert
design is built to cut in tighter spaces and at higher feed rates.
floating drive pin which engages on both sides into respective pockets in the
mating part. The tapers on the pins and the angles on the pockets are
engineered to permit an automatic balancing of the two resulting torsional
forces.
an array of standard shanks and extensions to be adapted with the heads to
create “custom” tools to extend over 16 inches, maintaining damping near the
cutting edge and managing vibration in long-overhang setups.
