Team Alinghi used traditional 2D design techniques when it began its quest to become the first European racing yacht team to win the America’s Cup. However, the team soon realized that 3D design carried greater potential for innovation and productivity improvements during the development of professional racing yachts, and decided to move to a 3D CAD system.
