Arcam introduces two new additive manufacturing machines

Arcam has introduced two new additive manufacturing machines. The Arcam Q10plus is the new generation EBM machine specifically for cost efficient production of orthopedic implants. The size of the build area allows optimal stacking of the most common implant types, and the build chamber interior delivers easy powder handling and fast turn-around times.

The Arcam Q10plus is for production of high volume press fit implants with advanced Tribecular Structures as derived from CT scans of individual patients.

Arcam Q10plus replaces the Arcam Q10 system and has several new features, including Arcam xQam technology for high precision autocalibration, a powerful new software platform and electronics for efficient and accurate beam control.

The Arcam Q10plus has the latest generation electron beam (EB) gun, which improves productivity and resolution. It also includes Arcam LayerQam, a camera-based monitoring system for inline part quality verification. The Arcam Q10plus comes with a powder recovery system (PRS) for efficient powder handling.

More productive additive manufacturing for aerospace components

The Arcam Q20plus is specifically for cost-efficient production of aerospace components, such as turbine blades, structural airframe components and more. The build envelope allows for building large components and optimal stacking of smaller ones. Like the Arcam Q10plus, the build chamber interior delivers easy powder handling and fast turn-around times.

The Arcam EBM process takes place in a vacuum and at elevated temperatures, resulting in stress relieved components with material properties better than cast and comparable to wrought material. Like the Arcam Q10plus, the Arcam Q20plus includes advanced validation technology, including Arcam LayerQam for inline part quality verification and the groundbreaking Arcam xQam for precision autocalibration.

Up to 15% higher productivity

In addition to enhanced precision and process robustness, test results indicate that the Arcam Q20plus can offer up to 15% higher productivity compared to the previous Q20 machine platform. This is made possible by new features including an entirely new software platform and electronics for efficient and accurate beam control.

Arcam Q20plus is based on the Arcam Q10 technology platform, with the same electron beam (EB) gun for higher productivity and improved resolution, but with a larger build envelope (Ø350×380 mm). It also includes Arcam LayerQam, Arcam’s camera-based monitoring system for inline part quality verification and the groundbreaking Arcam xQam technology for high precision autocalibration.

The Arcam Q20plus also comes with a powder recovery system (PRS) for efficient powder handling.
