Another way to remove support material from 3D printed parts

postprocessingRecently we published an article, Choosing a finishing method for additive manufacturing, on ways to finish your 3D printed part.  The major 3D printing vendors offer systems that you can purchase, or use their services, to finish your parts.

An alternative is to use post processing systems provided independent of the major vendors. One such company is Postprocess. The company is focused on developing products that enhance the post processing of 3D printed parts. It offers products, supplies, and application engineering support.

Presently, it offers two products; a Smart Tank and a Smart Tumbler. The Smart Tank offers variable fill rates, a solution that you do not need to come into contact with, Mac, PC, and mobile device compatible, continuous or automated monitoring, and a hot air agitator.  Tank sizes are 12 x 12 x 12 in., 18 x 18 x 18 in., and 36 x 36 x 36 in.

The Smart Tumbler smooths all types of 3D printed parts, including those made from FDM, Polyjet, SLA, and SLS and metal parts.  The tumbler has a 1.5 cubic foot drum. It’s amplitude, frequency and time are programmable.
